Greetings Brethren,
A bunch of THANKS
are in order again. Our chicken BBQ turned into a rousing success with the help of those that sold tickets, the pit and kitchen crew, and dining room crew. We even had two ladies don waitress garb and help wait on tables and prove that the men still have a lot to learn.. The only downside was that the dessert team consisting of myself and W B Oak Hanm (who has 20 years experience scooping ice cream) who couldn't keep up with the demand. The second container of sherbet turned out to be solid ice. I'm impressed with the wise cracks that the dining room crew came up with in harassing Oak and I.
More thanks to Brother Charlie Schaefer for his enlightening talk about the " Morgan Affair" which caused such havoc amongst the Brotherhood
many years ago. I know it took him a long time to research the data so it's much appreciated. And most of us did indeed understand in spite of the Brooklyn accent. It's also good to know the
Fraternity survived and has prospered since then.
At our last meeting I had the pleasure of announcing that as a result of the generosity of one of our Brothers, the remaining debt owed on our
loan for the Lodge Modernization Program has been greatly reduced. At last tabulation, about $29,000 was owed. Thanks to his generosity, roughly $9,000 remains which fortunately is covered by Brothers
who have pledged to cover the remainder this year.
At the beginning of the funds solicitation campaign, we had promised to not name the individuals contributing and I don't want to break that promise. Once we are paid up, recognition will take place but in the meantime, be aware that in our midst is a very generous and dedicated fellow Brother.
At the same time, I would ask those of you that have pledged to contribute, to do so as soon as you can, so we can avoid the remaining interest payments.
Also remember that the amount is not important. Pocket change is completely acceptable.
While on the subject of contributions, let me talk about this years' Brotherhood Fund campaign. I believe most of us have received mailings
from Grand Lodge requesting contributions.
We are going to continue doing what we have for the past couple of years and NOT send them directly to Grand Lodge. Brother Herb Simmons, with the help of Brother Hollis Cochran, is chairing our committee for gathering our Lodge contributions. Please send your contributions, big or small, to him. If you have already mailed yours in to Grand Lodge, please let him know.
As a report on our participation in the 1999 Charity Ball, we did pretty good. We ended up behind Poughkeepsie Lodge as number two
this year.
We sold roughly 40% less than last year in ads but hopefully this year we'll be back on track. W B Ford Franklin has graciously accepted the role of Charity Ball chairman for our Lodge this year. Please give him your input and help in making the upcoming Charity Ball a success. If nothing else, attend the Ball and watch me being foolish by trying to be coordinated at dance.
At our next meeting we will have a representative from First Investors Corporation speak to us about varied investments that we might consider.
Of course, they are looking to sell their expertise and investment products (and I have no reason to reject or endorse them) but we should be able to learn a bit more about what's happening in the investment marketplace. Their pitch is a direct result of what types of activities you've asked be brought forward at Lodge meetings so, please try to attend. The meeting will be tiled since we will be balloting on candidates but, the program is open to all.
We continue to be on a roll bringing new Brothers into our Lodge.
At our meeting on 10/27 we will be conveying the Entered Apprentice Degree on four new candidates. Please turn out to welcome these new Brothers into our Lodge and get to know them!
What's Masonry about??? Brothers who are not biologically related but treating Lodge Brothers as though they were. Oversimplification?
Sure, but very close to what it ought to be about.
