November - 1999 Trestleboard

Greetings Brethren,

I hope all are doing well and enjoying a really pleasant "Indian Summer".  We had a really busy October and so many Brothers came through in helping to make it a smooth month that we owe them our thanks.

I'll try to recap some of the more significant things that happened and I apologize in advance if I've forgotten something. Firstly, a proposal had been brought forward which would have asked the Lodge to contribute to the expense of lighting our North parking lot. Thanks to a number of Brothers pledging  new contributions, much of the expense can be covered but we certainly could use contributions from all (big or small) to pay it off completely.

On the 28th we hosted the joint Greene/Ulster and Dutchess Brotherhood Association meeting. A terrific roast beef dinner was prepared and served by our Brothers.  Roughly 64 Brothers attended the dinner.  About eighty four participated in the dinner and the meeting that followed it.  It was an event well worth attending in spite of the fact that we narrowly lost a game of Masonic Jeopardy to Greene/Ulster. Not to worry... we'll win again at the next joint meeting assuming everyone from our Lodge tries to attend and participate. The next Dutchess Association meeting is at Beacon Lodge on 11/29.

The night before the above-mentioned dinner, we conferred the Entered Apprentice degree on four new Brothers.  The degree work, with many of our Brothers in new roles, was very well done. We are really fortunate in getting new and "younger" Brothers to join us who are so enthusiastic about the Craft. Two of our recently raised Brothers did the Q's & A's in an outstanding manner!

OK, here's a very different subject. Many of us have had their address changed as a result of the 911 implementation.  Please submit your address change in to our Secretary WB Fred Quenzer ASAP so that he can change the mailing list. Either tell him at the next meeting or give him a call.

Also, RW Quenzer has mailed out the bill for our dues. Please get your dues in to him as soon as possible.

We've all heard much about the founding of our Fraternity but, how much do you know about the history of our  Lodge?  At our next meeting, VW Al Hejnal has agreed to spend a few minutes reminding old-timers and educating newcomers about the history of Hendrick Hudson Lodge #875. I know I need to learn a lot more about the founding of our Lodge and I'm sure there's many others of us that would like to learn how we were created in the Red Hook community. Please plan to attend!

Early notice about a covered-dish dinner coming up on 12/14 at 6:30 PM sponsored by the Order of the Eastern Star.  After which they plan to honor the Masons of our Lodge. Please put this on your calendar.  Reservations should be called in to Judy Coons at 758-6772.

Our Beef BBQ is happening on November 6th with dinner being served at 4:30 to 7 PM.

All hands requested to help cook, serve, clean up and SELL tickets!

Thanks to WB Bob Ludwig, we recently had the opportunity to have an independent film producer videotape an interview with several of us to describe what Masons, and specifically our Lodge, are all about.  For those of you who have cable TV, the interview aired on PANDA on 10/31.  PANDA is only one of the TV/Film mediums that the interview is planned for. If you have the opportunity, please try to catch it on cable. We have been promised a copy of the tape which I will plan on showing at one of our meetings in the future.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Masons are... Brothers, husbands, significant-others, proudful of their accomplishments, charitable, independent yet respectful of other opinions, retired, fully employed, newlyweds, fathers, duffers, hunters, audiophiles, and on and on and on.... and on balance, all men worth associating with and learning from.  Be proud of the fact that you are one of them!
