Greetings Brethren,
As always, I hope all of you are doing well and getting ready for the warming breezes of Spring.
Here's a change of my format... An announcement to get your attention at
the beginning of this Trestleboard.
Our next meeting, which is 3/8 and opening at 7:30 PM, will be an "Open Meeting" and Ladies Night.
It'll be our chance to thank the Ladies of the OES and have our wives / significant others also attend a hopefully entertaining program. Oh, kids are invited also.
We are fortunate to have Fr. Charlie Coen, who was born in Galway, Ireland, entertain us with a brief night of Irish
music. He has won seven (count them 7), All-Ireland Senior Championships on the tin whistle, flute, concertina and as a Sean-Nos (Celtic) singer. He has performed at major folk and Irish music festivals
throughout the US (too numerous to mention here) and in 1998, was inducted into the Irish Musicians Association Hall of Fame. If I remember correctly, he has also recorded several albums.
Fr. Coen will speak about and demonstrate his instruments. He will tell about Irish music as found in his homeland and in the US. He will also talk about how the Famine and immigration influenced the development of Irish music. In his spare time, Father Coen is the pastor of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Red Hook.
Fr. Charlie will hopefully be able to rush over from his other duties and entertain us at around 8 PM.
No dinner is planned for that evening but refreshments during and afterward should be appetizing. All contributions of cakes, cookies, etc. are appreciated.
OK, as usual, thanks are in order again.
I haven't seen their handiwork yet, but our "Lodge Elders" are busy contributing their time (without being asked), to remodel our upstairs bathroom. In true Masonic fashion they don't advertise or seek recognition for their contributions but also don't mind giving up spare time. Most of us know who they are and we sincerely thank them for keeping our Lodge building up to par.
Most recently, two of our newest Brothers, Cain Morano and Nicky Smith, did us proud at the ritual judging which is in
preparation for the Dutchess & Ulster / Greene competition. They tackled the Q's & A's for the First Degree and did an outstanding job. Nice job, guys!
Coming up is our famed Corned Beef Dinner on March 11th!
Sell those tickets and please sign up to help us in the kitchen or dining room. This is one of our biggest fund raisers and we rely on your help to make it happen.
June 24th is the St. John's Day trip to the Masonic Home in Utica.
It's a great opportunity for you, your spouses and others, to see the great facility that's available to all Masons. It's a one day bus trip well worth the time. Reservations are being taken by RWB Fred Grieve.
At our meeting on 3/24, the plan is to view a video discovered by Brother Mike Scott. It's "Cleopatra's Needle" and
discusses the fascinating finds on Masonry behind an ancient obelisk that stands in Central Park. It's well worth watching. Please plan on attending.
On the 25th of March at 12:30, the Ladies of the OES will be hosting a luncheon and social afternoon open to all.
It will be an opportunity for Masons and non-Masons to get together and have a little time to enjoy a pleasant afternoon and find out what the OES is all about. With almost two years as Master of our Lodge, I cannot remember one time where the OES has not supported us. Let's reciprocate and help them have a good attendance.
DID YOU KNOW???
You are a member of one of the best Masonic Lodges in New York State and probably the US.
You have the ability to, not only learn from other Brothers in your Lodge but, also teach them, no matter what your age or
experience. You can contribute to the best of your abilities and time and be appreciated.
You can interact with people that you would probably never have met or even said Hi to. You can talk about everything in Lodge except those things which have historically led to conflict such as religion, politics and work. The only thing you have to prove is that you are a good man and that should be easy since you are already a Mason.
