December - 1999 Trestleboard

Greetings Brethren,

Hopefully all of you survived Thanksgiving and are well prepared for the upcoming holidays. The night before Thanksgiving was a special night at Lodge in that we passed two of our Brothers and one from Shekomeko Lodge to the Fellowcraft Degree.  It was a great night. So many showed up on Thanksgiving eve and did an excellent job conferring the degree.  Many thanks to all!

As we get ready for the holiday season, keep in mind that we will be visiting the Masonic

Home in Utica on December 11th and 12th and preparations (wrapping presents) will be at 2 PM on 12/5 in Shekomeko Lodge.  Please participate in both events to make the holidays more joyous for the residents of the home.  Reservations for the Utica dinner and hotel rooms go to RW Fred Grieve at 914-758-6028.

We are currently at 30% participation in the Brotherhood Fund.  Last year we ended up at 50%. Being one of the premier Lodges in the District, I know we can do better. Remember, it's not the amount that counts. Please do the best you can and get your donation to Brother Herb Simmons who is chairman of the committee.

Thanks to all of those that participated in our "Adopt a Highway" trash pickup last month.  The more of us that turn out, make the 5.5 miles of highway a lot quicker to clean up. Along with helping make us visible to the community, it helps foster Fellowship.

Many thanks to those that have made financial contibutions to our Building Modernization efforts as well as the north parking lot lighting. We are closing on the amounts still owed but need to continue to receive the pledges in as quickly as possible to avoid interest payments on what's left of the loan.

December 8th is the official visit of our District Deputy Grand Master RW Burton A. Barrenger to our Lodge.  Lodge will open at 6 PM in order to hold a very brief business meeting. At 6:30, the Ladies of the OES will serve a pot roast dinner.  Cost is $10.00 and RW Fred Grieve is taking reservations. Please turn out for this important event to honor our DDGM / fellow Lodge Brother and hear the Grand Master's message.

The very same Ladies of the OES will then host a covered dish dinner on the 14th of December at 6:30 PM after which they plan to honor the Masons of our Lodge. This is an annual event that the Ladies have rescheduled a couple of times to accommodate our schedule.

Please make every effort to attend.  Reservations taken by Worthy Matron Judy Coons at 758-6772.

Of course there's our Lodge New Years Eve party!!!  A flyer is enclosed.  Reservations, while not necessary, can be called in to Mike or Judy Scott at 757-3403.

As you can tell, there's a lot happening over the next couple of weeks that should be of interest to you and hopefully you'll participate to the best of your ability.

Keep the spirit of the holidays in mind while at the same time remembering the spirit of Masonry. Giving of ourselves to those less fortunate is almost always perceived as more significant during this time of year (even though it should happen all the time).

If I don't have the opportunity to see each of you over the next several weeks, Barbara and I wish all of you a very happy holiday season.
